Ik ben geboren en opgegroeid in San José, Costa Rica, en studeerde daar in 2001 af als tandarts aan de Universidad Latina. De eerste jaren werkte ik in de algemene praktijk en de orthodontie, in een kliniek in mijn geboortestad. I was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica, and graduated there as a dentist at Universidad Latina in 2001. My first years were spent in general practice and orthodontics, in a clinic in my home city. Nací y crecí en San José, Costa Rica, y me gradué allí como odontóloga en la Universidad Latina en 2001. Mis primeros años los pasé en consulta general y ortodoncia, en una clínica de mi ciudad natal.

Daarna kwam ik naar Nederland. Acht jaar lang was ik clinical advisor bij Align Technology, een van de grootste fabrikanten van onzichtbare beugels. In die rol begeleidde ik behandelaars in Frankrijk en Spanje bij het werken met aligners en met de eerste generatie intraorale scanners. Ik leerde er hoe je een techniek uitlegt aan iemand die er nog niets van weet, en dat is iets wat ik nu elke dag met patiënten doe. Then I moved to the Netherlands. For eight years I was a clinical advisor at Align Technology, one of the largest manufacturers of clear aligners. In that role I supported practitioners in France and Spain with aligners and with the first generation of intraoral scanners. I learned there how to explain a technique to someone who knows nothing about it yet, and that is something I now do with patients every day. Después me mudé a los Países Bajos. Durante ocho años fui clinical advisor en Align Technology, uno de los mayores fabricantes de alineadores transparentes. En ese papel acompañé a profesionales de Francia y España con los alineadores y con la primera generación de escáneres intraorales. Allí aprendí a explicar una técnica a quien aún no sabe nada de ella, y eso es justo lo que hago cada día con mis pacientes.

In 2013 kwam ik bij ACTA terecht, het academisch centrum tandheelkunde in Amsterdam, en in 2016 rondde ik daar mijn specialisatie tot tandarts-gnatholoog af. Sindsdien ben ik staflid en behandelaar bij de sectie Orofaciale Pijn en Disfunctie, waar ik drie dagen per week patiënten zie met complexe pijnklachten en slaapapneu. Daarnaast doe ik er promotieonderzoek. In 2013 I joined ACTA, the academic centre for dentistry in Amsterdam, and in 2016 I completed my specialisation there as a dentist-gnathologist. Since then I have been a staff member and clinician in the Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction department, where I see patients with complex pain complaints and sleep apnea three days a week. Alongside that I am doing my PhD research. En 2013 entré en ACTA, el centro académico de odontología de Ámsterdam, y en 2016 completé allí mi especialización en dolor orofacial. Desde entonces formo parte del equipo docente y clínico de la sección de Dolor y Disfunción Orofacial, donde atiendo tres días por semana a pacientes con dolor complejo y apnea del sueño. Además realizo allí mi investigación doctoral.
